WAEC to Introduce E-Examination

The Chairman of West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced that plans are underway to introduce e-examination to replace the current pen and paper form of writing the exams.
According to Nigerian Tribune, Prof. Jonas Sawyer made the announcement during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’I as part of activities marking the 60th anniversary of the council.
According to him, the council has plans to have computer activated examinations, “so that we can move away from pen and paper. All these have been lined up and we are hoping that within the next few years, WAEC will be very difficult to beat or compete with.”
He said the council would do all it could to ensure that the statement of WAEC was maintained and the integrity of its certificate held at the highest level.
Good idea, but can any project based on computer and electricity succeed in the present day Nigeria? We hope this is not another “Owanbe” project that will not be of any benefit to Nigeria’s educational system.
